What it costs to hire a robot, and what actually changes the price

This is the first question everyone asks and the one most suppliers dodge, so here is the honest version.

Why there is no price list

Every booking is quoted, and that is not a stalling tactic. A two hour appearance in a Reading shopping centre on a Tuesday and a wedding in a converted barn outside Hungerford on a Saturday night look nothing alike once you account for travel, access, timing and how long he is actually on his feet. A single figure on a web page would be wrong for almost everyone who read it.

The five things that move the number

Travel and time on site are the obvious two. After that: how many units you want, because a second robot changes the show rather than just the headcount. Whether it is indoors, because weather turns an outdoor booking into a judgement call on the day. And when it runs, because an evening or weekend costs more to crew than a weekday afternoon.

What is included before you ask

A trained operator who stays with him from arrival to load out, our own crew including one person whose only job is keeping a safe space around him, public liability cover and a written risk assessment sent before the date is confirmed, and a run through beforehand so nothing on the day is a surprise. We film it, and you get the clips for your own channels.

What the venue needs to provide

A level space of about four metres by four metres, a power point within reach, and step free access. That is genuinely the whole list. If there are stairs or a small lift, say so at the enquiry stage rather than on the day, because it changes which unit we bring.

How to get a real number

Send the enquiry form with a rough date and a location. You will have an actual figure back the same day, not a range.

Thinking about a date?

Tell us roughly when and where. You will have a real price back the same day, and there is nothing to pay to ask.
